Macro-Pad help document

Place the Macro-Pad on the table with the short end that has an indentation in the middle towards your left. Inside the indentation is a switch and a USB C port. To turn on the MacroPad push the tiny switch away from you using a fingernail. It will beep quietly when it is ready to be used.

The E key at the top left can be pressed and held while you press another key to switch to another layer or set of functions. If you think you accidentally pressed it with a key other than 1 and it starts behaving strangely just press the E key along with the H key beside it to return to the layer 1 default mode. You could also turn off the MacroPad and turn it back on.

JWRead mode:

This is the default mode when you first turn on your MacroPad.

Pressing the E key by itself will cause the VoiceOver Escape or back command.

The following feature needs to be made possible by having me talk you through creating a custom command in the VoiceOver settings. Once done you will find it very useful.

Press and hold the blank key at the bottom left and while holding it press the E key to move VoiceOver focus to the center of the screen. This is useful when Voiceover is stuck somewhere. It is also useful to move to where the text of a scripture begins after opening the Study Pane.

The H key moves forward by heading.

Pressing the H key along with the blank key on the bottom left will move backward by heading.

Pressing the B key will move forward by bold text.

Pressing the blank key at the bottom left along with the B key will move backward by bold text.

Bold text is not only used in headings, but also to emphasize pieces of text. In JW Library moving by bold text will move by verse number in the Study Bible. it also is used on the numbers for paragraphs in the Watchtower Study and in other publications.

Pressing the A key will Activate the current item. This is the same as double tapping it.

Pressing the blank key at the bottom left of the MacroPad is like pressing the control key. It will stop VoiceOver speech just like touching the screen with 2 fingers.

Press L to move forward by links.

Press L along with the blank key to move backward by links.

Scriptures referenced in any publication in JW library will be links you can activate to read them in the Study pane. When finished reading press the E key to go back to the publication. Hopefully the MacroPad will do its job and return you to the scripture link you just used. If it did not Press the blank key along with E. That will place Voiceover focus very close to where you were reading. You might have to move forward or backward a bit to find the exact spot.

Press the P key to move by plain text.

Plane text is useful to read only the text of scriptures without hearing the verse numbers and the letters used for marginal references.

Press P with the blank key to start reading continuously from your current position. This is the same as swiping down with 2 fingers. You can stop the reading by pressing the blank key by itself.

Press the R key to read forward just as you would if you were swiping right with 1 finger on the screen.

Press R with the blank key to move in reverse just as you would when swiping left with 1 finger.

Remote Mode

Switch to Remote mode by pressing E with R.

E Key: Eject which shows or hides the on-screen keyboard when a physical keyboard is connected. The MacroPad is considered a keyboard even though it doesn't have all the normal keys, so it is necessary to use this key to make it possible to type on the iPhone again.

H key Volume down

B key Volume up

A key Activate which is the same as a double tap.

Blank key by itself Quick-nav on/off

Quick-nav is a weird thing to explain, but just know that you want it off if you want to type or control media playback. You want it on to control VoiceOver. So if you're trying to use this remote mode and it isn't working, then press the blank key by itself. If it says quick-nav off everything should work again. When you are finished controlling media with it switch it back to on.

L key This is now the left arrow key. When Quick-nav is on it will act just like swiping left with 1 finger. It will move Voiceover focus backward. With quick-nav off the left arrow key rewinds in the JW Library media player.

P key Play/pause

R key This is now the right arrow key. When Quick-nav is on it will act just like swiping right with 1 finger. It will move Voiceover focus forward. With quick-nav off the right arrow key fast forwards in the JW Library media player.

Blank key with E: Escape! This closes the media player in JW Library. It is not the same as the VoiceOver back or escape key.

Blank key with H Slow down playback in JW Library's media player.

Blank key with B Speed up playback in JW Library's media player.

Blank key with A Turn Voiceover speech off or on.

Blank key with L Previous media, which will return to the beginning of the currently playing thing. If pressed again it will go to the previous track if there was one. It usually only goes to the previous track when playing a list of songs.

Blank key with P Space which is the play/pause command in many media players.

Blank key with R Next track which usually only works with lists of songs.

Zoom Mode

Switch to Zoom mode by pressing E with a

E key Currently does nothing useful.

H key Volume down

B key Volume up

A key Activate, Like a VoiceOver double tap

Blank key Control, which temporarily stops VoiceOver speech.

L key Move left by form control, such as buttons.

P key VoiceOver Magic Tap which mutes and unmutes you in Zoom. This is the same as double tapping with 2 fingers.

R key Move right by form control such as buttons.

Blank with E Escape or back

Blank with H Raise Hand. It actually uses VoiceOver commands to go to the top, search for the word hand, then activate it. It also used to lower your hand but Zoom changed everything. Now it doesn't have a lower hand, but does have a Lower button. In fact, it even has a lower button when your hand is not raised. It is obviously a bug the Zoom company may or may not get around to fixing.

Blank with B Nothing on iPhone, but turns video off/on on an iPad or Mac computer.

Blank with A Turn off or on VoiceOver speech. Same as a 3 finger double tap.

Blank with L Move to top or left-most item.

Blank with P Nothing on iPhone, but mutes or unmutes you on iPad or Mac computer.

Blank with R Move to bottom or right most item.
